Miniatures Upcoming, Soldurios Cavalry

By early next-year several new pieces for the Soldurios 15mm lineup will be released adding several command figures and or heroes to the existing range. But perhaps more excitingly is a new model for the 15mm forces that is an alien creature.

As large as an elephant, it is a six-legged animal/insect hybrid that is a popular choice of pack animal throughout so many worlds. It is best known for its generally docile temperament and rugged hide but feared greatly for its ferocious charges and monstrous claws.

Soldurios have spent many decades domesticating the exotic animal to introduce as a heavy cavalry unit, carrying anti-armor guns and crews into lethal combat with confident strides akin to the thunderous steps of a giant.

As of September the command 'hero-type' models have been reworked to facilitate easier casting for production, as well as a consistent rhythm in the design and sculpture of the 15mm Soldurios cavalry unit. Since the base sculpt for the creature is completed it has been a matter of adding details like cannons, harness and luggage, and course riders!

Here is the critter as it now stands. This is the animal/insect hybrid that the Soldurios have made much use of.

Given it is the size of a small elephant this beast can lug around two riders and a medium cannon and still make good travel. It is an ideal creature for most environments that can be encountered and its curious genetics lend well to any extreme.

Rounding out the first set of 15mm generic Soldurios models are two heavy weapons soldiers outfitted with the Hast PWS, reminiscent of contemporary multiple grenade launchers, and the heavy auto-laser known as the Gorgon Hellfire SAW. Both are purposeful designs, outfitting a squad with deadly fast hard-hitting weaponry much needed in the Soldurios universe.

This image represents the two models before some minor rework was done to the helmets. With these already arriving at ZombieSmith's recently it means that for the first time EVER! Soldurios can be used in a complete formation in the 15mm scale.

More work is to continue on creating the first Soldurios 'vehicle', a unique option which characterizes the Soldurios universe while bringing some additional heavy firepower along.

Two new models have reached completion for the Soldurios 15mm line-up that will be made available through www.zombiesmith.com at a future date; these new sculpts feature dynamic poses including a leader with sword and a Soldurios warrior in firing position.

We have just a couple more left before the generic Soldurios warriors are done, and we can continue to create more 15mm miniatures before returning to the 6mm aspect of scale.

Due to an unforeseen opportunity I had to take some additional time to focus on professional aspects outside of the Soldurios models. Today, two new sculpts in 15mm featuring the same styling as the last 15mm Soldurian warrior have commenced.

These new models will fit in with squad members & carry generic equipment common to most Soldurios. At least one of these upcoming sculpts will feature a more dynamic pose that might serve well as a special character or leadership model for any given formation.

The middle of this week marks an important point in the development of the Soldurios Miniatures, something I am incredibly proud of both my artist Jason Spykerman & my sculptor Sean Harrison for.

Both of them have been such a blast to work with, and the opportunity to continue to work with both of them is a blessing in-and-of itself.

Jason Spykerman & Sean Harrison are able to capture the idea of the Soldurios Warrior in that universe so very well. The result is what you see, a beautiful and elegant model that looks at home in 6mm or 15mm or whatever scale.

With this model unveiled models will continue to be developed for 15mm models and released as a full-squad becomes available. This will continue until the 15mm is brought up-to speed with the current progress of 6mm.

Due to the popularity of 15mm the Soldurios miniatures line will slowly continue to expand to include this scale.

The first 15mm scale will be based on initial concept art that began it all in the most early stages and focus on generic patterns until a standard battle formation has been completed.

Sculpting started this weekend and updates posted by the end of the month. This foray into the 15mm scale will likely revolve around infantry forces until the 6mm is mostly finished.
